If the State of Maryland passes an anti-gay marriage amendment, this site will be devoted to banning divorce in the State of Maryland. Fair warning!
This site is dedicated to the premise that if marriage is such a sacred institution, then why should the government be involved in the breaking of sacred vows made before God and family.
Marriage can be, but is not required to be, both a religious and civil event. So, I say let religious people decide for themselves who can be married in a religious ceremony, and let everyone else who wants to be married in a civil ceremony do so. Do not force religious instituions to marry gays/lesbians if they do not want. But do not allow my government to tell me I cannot marry the person I choose because it might upset the religious right. Religions should not have to recognize civil marriages and the government should not have to recognize a religious marriage. But the government should not be able to tell me I can't get married because it goes against someone's religious views. No one has ever been able to clearly explain to me how two people of the same sex getting married threatens their marriage -- unless of course it was a weak marriage to being with.
If anything, when gays and lesbians exercise their Constitutional right to marry in civil ceremonies, it sends a strong signal to society that marriage is so important that we want everyone to benefit from it. Most importantly, given how well gays and lesbians are are revitalizing run-down neighborhoods, just imagine what they can do to revitize the institution of marriage!
Call you Congressman, Senator or state legislator and remind them that every time the radical right wins, someone loses another civil liberty!

- What Can You Do?
- If you are gay or lesbian, come out! Folks who know us agree with us.
- Call, write or visit your elected officials. They control what happens to our lives. Ask them to tell you to your face that you do not deserve all the benefits of the U.S. or Maryland Constitution.
- Anytime someone says we should not flaunt our sexuality, ask them why they flaunt theirs by wearing a wedding ring.
- Understand that no one can make the case for equal rights as strongly as those to whom the rights are being denied. Are you happy with the fact that people who are married for less than 1 day get more than 1,00 beneifits from the government that you will never get even after 20 years of sharing your life with someone?
